Brand price guide Reviewed September 30, 2026
Generac generator cost,
including installation.
A generator price, a switch package, and a finished installation are three different purchases. Compare the scope before comparing the number.
The manufacturer's broad installed range
$8,000–$16,000
Generac's installation page states this home standby range with the generator, system equipment/materials, and installation included. It is not a quote for the models below, a labor-only range, or a ceiling for a difficult site.
Independent price-scope analysis—not a dealer, contractor quote, product recommendation, or electrical design. Listed prices were checked on the review date; they are not live offers.
22, 24 and 26 kW hardware: six exact listings
These are selected U.S. manufacturer listings, not the entire Generac range. The catalog labels starting prices; individual product pages show MSRP. Both describe hardware, not a dealer's installed offer. The kW column is the catalog class—not a verified output on every fuel or a sizing recommendation.
| Catalog class | Generator only | With whole-house switch | Package difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22 kW | $6,119G0070420 | $6,979G0070430 | $860Hardware subtraction only |
| 24 kW | $6,559G0072090 | $7,399G0072101 | $840Hardware subtraction only |
| 26 kW | $6,989G0072900 | $7,899G0072910 | $910Hardware subtraction only |
A package that names a whole-house switch is not a promise that every household load runs together. Ask for the switch model, electrical rating, load-management parts, and the generator's exact fuel-specific rating. Matching those details is more useful than shopping by the largest kW label. Do not assume an existing switch can be reused without an installer's compatibility review.
What changes when the price includes installation?
Read an advertisement or bid as a scope statement first. Hardware only answers what equipment is being sold. An installed proposal also needs to say what will be connected, built, reviewed, tested, and handed over. The following ledger is a quote-review framework, not a claim that every dealer includes these items or that every authority requires the same process.
| Work group | Hardware listing tells you | Installed proposal should clarify | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|---|
| Generator | Named generator SKU only | Exact model, fuel-specific rating, delivery and startup responsibility | Is this the same SKU and fuel configuration in every offer? |
| Transfer and load management | Switch only when the package explicitly includes it | Switch model/rating, electrical connection, managed loads and any extra modules | Is a switch already bundled, and what connection work is included? |
| Electrical and service work | Not established by a hardware listing | Routing, conductors, service/panel changes and utility coordination | What existing equipment or utility work remains pending? |
| Fuel connection | Not established by a hardware listing | Declared route, materials, testing and any meter or tank dependency | Who confirms the supply, and what changes are excluded? |
| Site and restoration | Not established by a hardware listing | Pad, access, excavation and agreed yard restoration | What site assumption would cause a change order? |
| Permits, tax and handover | Must be checked on the actual offer | Named fee/tax treatment, inspection responsibility and startup documents | What must happen before the project is ready to use? |
Site uncertainty is not just labor uncertainty
A long fuel route, a service change, difficult access, or restoration can alter a proposal. Ask which site facts are still assumptions and what would trigger a change order. Do not describe everything above the generator price as “installation labor”: that balance can contain hardware, materials, fees and tax as well.
The manufacturer's broad range has no named-model midpoint. We do not invent one or turn it into a low / typical / high brand estimate. For a separate generic, itemized planning scenario, use the national installed-cost guide or installed-cost calculator. Those models are not Generac-specific and do not validate a dealer quote.
A reproducible example: what does the switch package add?
The observed 22 kW listings are G0070420 at $6,119 and G0070430 at $6,979. Their difference is:
$6,979 − $6,119 = $860
That $860 is a difference between listed hardware packages. It is not a standalone ATS price, an electrician's fee, or an installed transfer-switch estimate. Bundling and configuration can affect the difference. A quote using the switch package should identify that included hardware before adding another switch charge.
For a second check, the listed 24 kW package is $420 above the 22 kW package. That is still only a hardware comparison. It does not establish the difference between two completed installations or prove the larger unit suits your home.
If your task is a separate transfer-switch retrofit, use the transfer-switch installed-cost tool. Do not add its full result to a package that may already include the switch or the same connection work.
Before accepting a Generac installation quote
Give every bidder the same household load priorities, fuel service, and known site facts. Then ask for written answers to these scope questions. The aim is a comparable proposal, not a score for a contractor.
- Name the equipment. Record both SKUs, the selected fuel, managed loads, and any added modules. A “whole-house” label alone is not a load plan.
- Trace the connection work. Ask what electrical and fuel routes are assumed and who confirms any utility change. Leave unresolved work visibly pending.
- Separate included and conditional items. Identify pad, excavation, restoration, permit fees, tax treatment, delivery and startup. Ask what could change the price.
- Confirm responsibility and handover. Who obtains required reviews, arranges inspections, tests the system and provides the startup record? Verify relevant local qualifications separately.
- Keep ownership outside the installation total. Scheduled service, outage fuel and borrowing cost are different budgets. Check optional service contracts rather than assuming warranty means free maintenance.
Use the sizing calculator to organize loads before selecting a catalog class. If you already have proposals, the anonymous quote-comparison tool can turn missing scope into neutral clarification questions. It does not upload quotes, rank bidders, or recommend a contractor.
For the next ownership step, use the scheduled-maintenance planner and fuel running-cost tool. Both have their own model boundaries; neither is a promise for a specific Generac offer.
Generac price questions
How much does a Generac generator cost including installation?
Generac's installation page states a broad $8,000–$16,000 home standby range including the generator, system equipment/materials and installation, reviewed September 30, 2026. It is not a quote for a named model or a guarantee for your site. Confirm a complete written scope with the installer.
Does a Generac price with a whole-house switch include installation?
No installation is established by the hardware package listing. The listed package pairs a generator with a switch. Electrical connection, fuel work, pad, permits, tax treatment and startup must be checked on the actual offer.
Is the package price difference the standalone transfer-switch price?
No. It is only the difference between two observed manufacturer listings. Bundling and configuration can affect that difference; it is not an installed switch cost or a verified standalone switch offer.
Does a 22, 24 or 26 kW listing determine the right size for my house?
No. Catalog class is not a household load calculation. Verify the exact model's output on your fuel, starting loads and load management with the installer. Use the separate sizing tool to organize a planning scenario.
